Selectors/Multiplexers/Demultiplexers

Selectors, multiplexers, and demultiplexers are integrated circuits that combine and distribute input signals and output them. A multiplexer is a selector that converts multiple input signals into one signal and outputs it. The control signal that is input separately from the input signal determines which signal to select and outputs as one signal. Conversely, the demultiplexer selects and outputs one of multiple outputs according to the control signal. Multiplexer and demultiplexer functions are often required in one device, and a device that has both functions is sometimes called a multiplexer. A flip-flop is an integrated circuit that holds the state specified by an input signal until the next signal is input.
