NIHON KINZOKU DENCHU Surface Roughness Testers
Surface roughness testers are machines to measure the condition of machined surfaces of parts. In order to evaluate machined surfaces, measurement results are calculated based on a roughness curve. Roughness testers can be contact types that use a probe and non-contact types that use a laser or the like. Contact types use a probe that follows the surface to detect changes. If the probe tip part wears and becomes rounded, the form is not stable, so polishing and the like needs to be done to stabilize measurement results. On the other hand, non-contact types use light, not a probe. There are various measurement methods with non-contact types as well, and the measurement method selected according to differences in measurement principals. Non-contact types can measure shape as well as surface roughness. The surface roughness tester to use must be selected according to the surface to measure and the purpose for which the measurement results are used.
