ROHM Circuit Protection

Circuit protection refers to circuits that protect the power supply from damage in the event of overcurrent in electrical appliances. They are often used in small TVs and radios, AV/PA equipment, small household appliances and electrical components in automobiles. Rechargeable lithium ion batteries with overcharge, over-discharge and overcurrent protection circuits have also recently become available. Circuit types include glass tube fuses, safety breakers, protection relays, etc. Materials commonly used are silver-plated copper wires, nickel plating and glass. It is important for a protective circuit to ensure the safety of its target device or component in the event of an overcurrent and guarantee normal operation. Designing a safe circuit requires inserting safety components such as fuses at every circuit branch to prevent smoke, etc., in the event of an abnormality such as a short circuit or a seized motor.
