ROHM Tantalum Electrolytic Capacitors
A tantalum electrolytic capacitor is an electrolytic capacitor consisting of an anode made of sintered tantalum metal powder, a dielectric of tantalum pentoxide, and an electrolyte of solid manganese dioxide. The capacitor has excellent leakage current characteristics, frequency characteristics, and temperature characteristics, and is a small, long-life capacitor. Tantalum electrolytic capacitors have good frequency characteristics and are used as power supply smoothing and bypass capacitors. Mounting types include surface mount, through-hole mount, chassis mount, etc. Tantalum electrolytic capacitors have positive and negative polarities. Care must be taken when a voltage of opposite polarity is applied, as a short circuit between the electrodes may result in a risk of fire. Conductive polymer tantalum electrolytic capacitors, in which the electrolyte is replaced with a conductive polymer, are characterized by low ESR.
