FESTO Proximity Sensors

Proximity sensor is the general term for sensors designed to detect objects without making contact. Along with the sensor body, proximity sensors have peripheral devices such as a mounting sleeve, proximity sensor dog and dog shaft. Proximity sensors work using a number of different methods. Examples include methods designed to convert information about the detected object into electrical signals, methods using eddy current from the detected object, methods that identify changes in electrical capacity from the detected object and methods using magnets. Proximity sensors have several properties in common. For example, they don't require physical contact that can cause wear or damage, they have no effect on contact life, they support a large temperature range and they are adapted to use in environments of water, oil or other adverse conditions. Sensors come in a wide variety of shapes and materials, and should be selected to match the usage environment.
