Film Capacitors

A film capacitor is a capacitor that uses a plastic film as a dielectric. Film capacitors were developed from MP capacitors, and consist of a paper capacitor formed from paper sandwiched between foils of metal such as aluminum and shaped into a roll, with metal deposited directly onto the paper. The external shape is a cylinder or cube. Types are divided into foil electrode types and deposited electrode types (metallic film types) according to their internal electrodes. Types such as wound types, multilayer types, induction types and non-induction types are available that differ according to the structure. The insulation resistance of these types is even more reliable than the multilayer ceramic chip capacitor types used in applications such as mobile phones, which means they are mainly used in high-voltage circuits for devices such as industrial equipment and power electronic devices.
