Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors
Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are components that store electrical charge and are small with large capacities and high withstand voltages. Styles include chip type, lead type, standalone type, screw terminal type, and more. Main applications for aluminum electrolytic capacitors include smoothing circuits for power supplies, noise reduction circuits in switched-mode power supplies, camera flashes, emergency backup power supplies, etc. The aluminum encapsulation of an aluminum electrolytic capacitor houses etched aluminum foil as electrodes, with a roll of paper saturated with electrolytic fluid as dielectric material wedged between the electrodes. When using an aluminum electrolytic capacitor, care must be taken since the capacitance and equivalent series resistance are greatly affected by temperature, the capacitor generates heat, capacitance may decrease with electrolytic fluids evaporating, or increase in internal pressure may cause the capacitor to burst.
