In addition to the normal shape, we offer flanged products and those with built-in washers.

[What is a tapping screw?]
It is a screw to be tightened while threading itself against the pilot hole to be tightened. It eliminates the need for tapping, which leads to reduced work costs.
As screws themselves perform threading, the fastening force is high and it does not easily get loosened, but it also has the disadvantage of being difficult to remove.
Types 1, 2 and 3 are available, which are used according to the materials to be tightened.

Self-Tapping Screws for Drilling and Fastening Materials

A self-tapping screw is a type of screw that can drill into and fasten materials in a single step, eliminating the need for pre-drilling. This makes them convenient and time-saving. Self-tapping screws typically have a pointed tip resembling a drill bit.

How Self-Tapping Screws Work

When a self-tapping screw is driven into a material, the pointed tip drills a pilot hole while simultaneously forming threads in the material, allowing the screw to securely fasten without the need for a nut.

Types of Self-Tapping Screws

There are various types of self-tapping screws to suit different applications, such as:

  • Pan head self-tapping screws: The most common type, suitable for general applications like wood, plastic, and thin metal sheets.
  • Hex head self-tapping screws: Ideal for applications requiring high torque, such as structural work.
  • Self-drilling screws: Designed for drilling through thicker materials like metal.
  • Countersunk self-tapping screws: The head recesses into the material for a flush finish.

Materials Used for Self-Tapping Screws

Self-tapping screws are typically made of steel, but stainless steel and other materials can also be used depending on the specific application.

Applications of Self-Tapping Screws

Self-tapping screws are widely used in various industries, including:

  • Woodworking: Assembling furniture and wooden structures.
  • Plastics: Fastening plastic components.
  • Sheet metal: Joining thin metal sheets.
  • Construction: Attaching materials like wood or gypsum board.

Precautions When Using Self-Tapping Screws

  • Choose the correct size and type of screw for the application.
  • Apply the appropriate torque to avoid damaging the material or the screw.
  • Use a suitable drill bit if pre-drilling is necessary.

Self-tapping screws offer a convenient and efficient way to fasten materials. By selecting the right type of screw for the application, you can ensure a secure and long-lasting bond.
