Ratchet

A ratchet is a mechanical device that allows continuous linear or rotational motion in one direction only and prevents movement in the opposite direction. Ratchet gears are widely used in machines and tools. The ratchet mechanism is used in conjunction with a hoop-shaped or spring-like pawl to force the ratchet to turn in a one direction only. We can find the use of this type of mechanism in a variety of ways, such as fishing rods, watch winders, or in other machines.
