ROHM Discrete

Discretes are simple semiconductor components with limited, specific functionalities. They are also called "discrete semiconductor" and are mainly assembled into circuits for use in audio devices. A semiconductor is a substance that has a conductive characteristic that falls between that of a conductor, which conducts electricity, and that of an insulator, which does not conduct electricity. They are made by adding impurities such as phosphorus and boron to silicon, germanium, etc. Discretes include transistors, diodes, varistors, FETs, thyristors, and more. Transistors control the electrical current. Diodes allow electric current to pass in one direction. Varistors protect the circuit from overcurrent, and FETs control current between electrodes. Thyristors provide conduction between the anode and the cathode.
