Crimp Terminals

A crimp terminal is a connection part used by attaching to the end of a cable. There are various types such as bare crimp terminals, insulated crimp terminals, plug-in crimp terminals, etc. The main shapes are round, Y-type, sleeve-ring type, blade type, etc. There are two types: crimping using a dedicated tool, and connecting to the terminal block by insertion., therefore select the type according to the application and connection target. The structure and characteristics of the crimp terminals differ depending on the product, and there are various products available such as those with heat resistance that can be used for heater wires and heating wires, those that have guides that allow the cable to be inserted smoothly into the cylinder, those that are tin-plated and corrosion-resistant, etc. It is widely used for applications that require mating, such as internal wiring of industrial equipment, measuring instrument, FA control equipment, etc., connection between equipment, various electrical work, etc.

Insulated DIN Colour Coded Bootlace Ferrules【100 Pieces Per Package】

    RS Pro

From RS Pro a range of high-quality DIN colour coded bootlace ferrules (also known as cord end terminals) for providing a clean end termination to multi-stranded wires. These reliable wire ferrules ensure that you have a positive connection when connecting wires to terminal blocks and captive terminals.

    What Is a Bootlace Ferrule?
A bootlace ferrule is a metal tube or ferrule with a moulded colour coded insulating collar made from nylon. The ferrule is slipped over the end of a multi-stranded wire, crimped and then inserted into a screw or spring clamp connection.

Where is a Bootlace Ferrule Used?
When the end of a multi-stranded wire is stripped and placed directly under a screw terminal the strands of the wire will naturally fan out under the pressure of the screw. Some strands will go astray. This reduces the quality of the electrical connection and can also result in electrical shorts. When a bootlace ferrule is used, the insulated funnel with it's flared design captures all the strands. These strands are then crimped together in the ferrule tube. The crimped ferrule is then inserted into the terminal to create an electrical connection

    Features and Benefits
    • Excellent electrical connection
    • Reduces short circuits
    • DIN colour coded collar for easy ferrule size identification
    • Nylon insulated collar for reduced leakage, creepage and gas intrusion
    • Tin plated copper tube for excellent conductivity
    • Crimped terminal can be repeatedly inserted and removed without degrading end of the wire

    Applications
Bootlace ferrules are used on multi-stranded wires that are being inserted into screw terminals and terminal blocks. Applications include consumer units, circuit breakers, electrical control panels and any equipment where there is a requirement for a multi-stranded wire connection.

    Questions and Answers

How to Crimp a Bootlace Ferrule
Select the correct size bootlace ferrule and strip the end of the wire. Cut the wires to the same length as terminal and twist the strands together. Slip the bootlace ferrule (insulated collar first) onto the ends of the wire until the wire strands are flush with the end of the tube. Using a ratchet crimping tool, insert the metal tube of the ferrule into the appropriate crimping section (indicated by sizes marked on the tool). Squeeze the tool handles together until the ratchet releases. A ratchet crimping tool is preferable as the handles will remain locked until a full crimp cycle is completed preventing partial crimps. The crimped wire end is now ready to be inserted into connecting terminal

    PIDG Crimp Bullet Connectors

PIDG Crimp Bullet Connectors【100 Pieces Per Package】

    TE Connectivity

PIDG (Pre-Insulated Diamond Grip) bullet connectors consisting of receptacle and plug terminals designed for uniform reliability in the most difficult circuit environments. These PIDG crimp bullet connectors consist of a precision-formed high conductivity copper body and barrel. Serrations inside the wire barrel provide maximum contact and tensile strength after crimping. The wire barrel is surrounded with a copper sleeve which provides wire insulation support. An outer colour coded nylon sleeve allows easy identification of wire size. These PIDG crimp bullet connectors also feature a funnelled wire entry which allows fast wire insertion during high-speed production. The construction of these PIDG terminals and the use of specialised tool dies allows a uniform and reliable crimp to be achieved
Available with various wire, barrel and stud sizes, these PIDG bullet terminals offer a versatile solution to a wide range of wiring applications

FAQ Crimp Terminals

Question: Wire crimping and Soldering. Which one is better?
Answer: Wire crimping” has pros in that it is easy to install, the electricity can flow smoothly, and it can be used with various equipments. But the cons are that it costs money due to the tools used in the process. On the other hand, “Soldering” uses Flux to make electrical contact, which is cheaper than wire crimping. But the wire and contact point have less flexibility. If you use soldering in equipment that causes vibration, there is a risk of broken wires.
Question: How many Wires can crimp together?
Answer: It is not recommended for pair multiple wires in one crimp terminal when wire crimping. Because crimp terminals are designed to work with a specific size of wire, when multiple wires are combined in one crimp, the holding force is reduced, resulting in heat at the terminal.
Question: Should you twist the wire before crimping?
Answer: If stranded wire is used in wire crimping, The twisted method of copper wire before wire crimping will increase the surface density. The chance that a wire terminal will be loose or fall out after crimping is going to be reduced. and the risk of an electrical accident is also decreased.
Question: Can you use plier for wire crimping?
Answer: It is not recommended to use pliers to crimp the wire except “Wire Crimper”. because there is a chance that the wire terminal will be loose or damaged, which is called “Bad Contact”. And when the equipment is running, the heat at the terminal is going to increase more than usual because electricity cannot flow smoothly. It will cause the ark to and melted wires. Therefore, should study how to use the crimping pliers properly to prevent the danger that may occur.
