END MILL_S108

Caution
Product Description
Dormer S108 is a solid carbide 2-flute square end mill in regular length, with a 30° helix and a bright (uncoated) finish. It comes in 18 inch sizes from 1/16 to 1 inch diameter for general milling such as slotting and side milling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron and non-ferrous materials.
Standards and tolerances
- Dormer solid carbide end mills come with high-precision h6 shanks as standard on most cutters, and their cylindrical shanks are made to DIN 6535 HA.
- Dimensions are in inch. The metric version of this design is series S109.
Cutting data
- Dormer Pramet gives a starting cutting speed (SFM) and a feed code for each Workpiece Material Group (WMG). To find the feed per tooth (IPT) for your tool diameter, look up the feed code in the solid carbide (HM) feed table of the Dormer end mill catalogue.
- The feed table values apply to at least 50% radial immersion. When milling with less than 50% radial immersion, apply the catalogue correction factors to speed and feed.
- Read the table values as feed per revolution (IPR) only when plunging into solid material with a center-cutting end mill.
- Recommended for ISO P, M, K and N material groups. No cutting data is given for high-temperature alloys (ISO S) or hardened materials (ISO H).
Feed correction for slot milling depth
| Depth of cut / diameter | 25% | 50% | 100% | 150% |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Feed per tooth factor | 1.25 | 1.00 | 0.75 | 0.50 |
Cautions
- Solid carbide is hard but brittle. Use a rigid set-up and a precise tool holder, and avoid impact and excessive runout to prevent edge chipping.
- Wear eye protection when machining, and avoid breathing the dust if the tool is reground.
The Dormer S108 (previous style E3302) is a regular-length, square-end, 2-flute end mill made from premium micrograin solid carbide. It belongs to Dormer Pramet's solid carbide end mill range. That range is designed for the most common milling operations, such as slotting, plunging, side and face milling, ramping and copy milling. It gives consistent, repeatable performance across a wide range of machines and conditions.
Key features
- Premium micrograin carbide combines hardness and toughness, giving high wear resistance and long, consistent tool life.
- 2 flutes with a 30° helix angle and a square end.
- Bright (uncoated) finish improves chip flow in soft and non-ferrous materials.
- 18 inch sizes from 1/16 to 1 inch, regular length, on a plain cylindrical shank.
- The same design is available with AlTiN coating as series S208 (1/16 to 5/8 inch) for higher metal removal rates.
Typical applications
Slotting, side milling and general-purpose milling of steel and cast steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), cast iron (ISO K), and non-ferrous materials such as aluminium and copper alloys (ISO N).

Square-end solid carbide end mill with 2 helical flutes (30° helix) at the cutting end and a plain cylindrical shank at the other end. All dimensions are in inch.
- d1: cutting diameter, 1/16 to 1 inch
- d2: shank diameter, 1/8 to 1 inch
- l2: length of cut, 1/4 to 1-1/2 inch
- l1: overall length, 1-1/2 to 4 inch
For 1/8, 3/16 and all sizes from 1/4 inch upward, the shank diameter equals the cutting diameter. The smaller sizes run on a larger shank: 1/16, 5/64 and 3/32 inch on a 1/8 inch shank; 9/64, 5/32 and 11/64 inch on a 3/16 inch shank; and 7/32 inch on a 1/4 inch shank.
Choosing the right series
- S108: bright finish, inch sizes 1/16 to 1 inch. The general-purpose choice for steel, stainless steel, cast iron and non-ferrous materials; the bright finish suits soft and non-ferrous materials best.
- S208: the same design with AlTiN coating, 1/16 to 5/8 inch. Higher surface hardness, better chip flow and longer tool life allow higher metal removal rates, and its cutting data also covers high-temperature alloys (ISO S).
- S109: metric version, 2.00 to 25.00 mm.
- S110 (long length) and S111 (extra long length), 1/8 to 1/2 inch: for deeper features.
- S112: ball nose version, 1/16 to 1/2 inch, for cutting internal part radii.
