· Like the corner cube, this optical element is able to reflect all the light which enters, and to return it in the direction from which it originally came.
· By combining three mirrors at precisely 90 degrees, there are no effects from the wavelength dispersion of the glass refractive index or the glass absorption.
· Since the hollow retroreflector has been precisely machined/adjusted, it is capable of returning the light with high accuracy.
· It can be used over a wide wavelength region from ultraviolet light to near infrared.
· Because there is no wavelength dispersion caused by glass, the position of beams from reflected light does not deviate due to wavelength.
· Since the polarization characteristics are low, it can also be used in multiple path interferometers, etc., to utilize the polarization.
· A lens holder is available (LHF-S) which can be fixed in a hollow retroreflector.
· A corner cube (CCB) is also available with a high reflected light quantity.
· * When a beam is incident on a hollow retroreflector it is accurately returned with the same incidence angle, but if the incident position of the beam is shifted from the center of the retroreflector, a beam will be emitted from a position the same distance away from the center, but on the opposite side.
· * There are gaps in the joining surface where the three reflection surfaces of the hollow retroreflector intersect, and six lines that do not reflect light coming in or out can be observed in a radial pattern.
· * When narrow laser beams are used, make sure that they do not overlap these 6 lines.
· * The hollow retroreflector has some polarizing characteristics due to the reflection from the aluminum.
· * Do not wipe the mirror surface with paper.
· * Aluminum coating is not covered with protective coating and damage may occur.
· * Blow any debris off using an air blower, etc. before use.
· * Aluminum reflectance is 85% to 90% (single surface) but the hollow retroreflector always reflects with 3 surfaces and reflection light efficiency will be 61% to 73%.
