Product features and specifications
Basic specifications and features of the product
■Introducing the AXD series of cutters for machining aluminum alloys and difficult-to-cut materials

Supports a variety of machining conditions
It has high ramping performance and can be used for various machining forms.

Centrifugal force resistant structure
The high-rigidity double screw clamp mechanism prevents the insert from protruding due to centrifugal force during high-speed rotation, achieving stable machining.
- Protrusion amount of insert due to centrifugal force
Insert displacement after air cut

Tool: AXD4000-050A04RA, AXD7000-050A03RA
Insert: XDGX175008PDFR-GL, XDGX227008PDFR-GL
Rotation speed: 20000min-1 (air cut)

High-rigidity double-screw clamping mechanism and Mitsubishi Materials' original anti-scattering mechanism (double AFI mechanism) enable high-speed machining.

High balance accuracy
In order to suppress vibration during high-speed rotation, all model numbers have a balance accuracy of G6.3 (goodness of balance: ISO1940) at a rotational speed of 10000 min-1 for the holder alone.
(Holder only = without insert and clamp screw)
Grade Features
The coefficient of friction with excellent adhesion resistance and the PVD coating with excellent fracture and heat resistance make it a truly TOUGH grade.

- Tough-Sigma Technology
TOUGH is achieved through the fusion (Σ) of each excellent coating and technology.

The combination of TF15 ultra-fine grained cemented carbide and DLC coating, which exhibits overwhelming adhesion resistance, achieves high-quality and stable machining by improving surface finish accuracy in aluminum alloy machining and suppressing adhesion to the rake face of the insert. is. Dry processing is possible as well as wet processing.

●TF15
An ultra-fine grain cemented carbide with excellent wear resistance and fracture resistance. It promises stable cutting in high-efficiency machining of aluminum alloys.
In addition, the rake face has been specially treated to a mirror finish to provide good adhesion resistance.

The standard product is right-handed (R) only.
Usage method and usage examples
Usage examples
- Example of application

Please note that it may not be possible to perform machining according to this example, depending on the rigidity of the machine used, the rigidity of the workpiece, and the rigidity of the workpiece clamp.

- Steel, non-ferrous metals, difficult-to-cut materials
Selection support information
● AXD4000 insert selection method
It is necessary to select a threaded insert depending on the cutting conditions and machining environment. Please select using the following as a guide.
For stable cutting conditions, a sharp GL chip breaker is the first recommendation.

For aluminum alloys, the GL chip breaker is the first recommendation to use. A GM chip breaker is recommended for load-bearing conditions such as large feeds and cuts.

Cautions/prohibitions
■ Precautions
How to install the insert
(2) Tighten the clamp screw using the included wrench while firmly holding the insert against the insert seat.
(3) Tighten the clamp screws in the order shown in Fig.1.
(4) Apply an anti-seizure agent to the clamp screws and tighten to the specified tightening torque.
The specified tightening torque is shown below.
AXD7000 3.5 N⋅m (2.58ft·lb)
AXD4000 1.5 N⋅m (1.11ft·lb)
(5) Clamp screws are important parts for ensuring safety. Please use the correct model number.
If the rotational speed shown in Table 2 is exceeded, it is recommended to replace the clamp screw with a new one at the same time as the insert is replaced.

(6) Make sure that there are no clearances on the seating surface of the insert before use.
Installation procedure for arbor type body
(1) Before mounting the body to the arbor, carefully clean the inside and end faces of the body mounting holes and the end faces of the arbor.
(2) Set the main body on the arbor and tighten it with the included main body set bolts. Refer to the table below for tightening torque.
(3) The body set bolt that comes with the AXD is a special coolant-through bolt. Please be careful not to lose it.

- Even if it is used within the maximum allowable rotation speed, if the rotation speed exceeds Table 2, the balance accuracy (goodness of balance: ISO1940) can be improved to G6.3 or higher by integrating with the arbor or milling chuck. It is recommended thatIt is also recommended to replace the clamp screw with a new one each time the insert is replaced.
Furthermore, please use a machine tool with safety measures in place to prevent damage to the cutter.
Note) The balance accuracy of the AXD4000 and AXD7000 is G6.3 at 10,000 min-1 for the holder alone (with no insert or clamp screw installed).

- Consider the maximum allowable rotation speed of the machine tool, arbor, milling chuck, etc.
- When using an arbor type with a coolant hole, please use a special set bolt.
- The cutting edges of the inserts are sharp and may cause injury if touched with bare hands.
Please be sure to wear gloves.
