Product Feature Details

Figure 1 Structure of Cam Follower CF: UU-A Type
Structure and Features
The cam follower is a compact, high-rigidity shaft-type bearing with built-in needle rollers, used as a guide roller for cam mechanisms and linear motion.
Since the outer ring performs rotary motion while being in direct contact with the mating surface, it is designed to be thick-walled to withstand impact loads.
In addition, precision needle rollers with cages are incorporated inside the outer ring to prevent skewing, ensuring excellent rotating performance and sufficient durability for high-speed rotation.
The outer diameter of the outer ring is available in both spherical and cylindrical shapes. The spherical outer ring can absorb misalignment during installation with ease and helps to reduce uneven loads.
They are widely used in cam mechanisms of automatic and dedicated machines, as well as in various transport devices, conveyors, bookbinding machines, tool changers for machining centers, pallet changers, automatic painting machines, and slide-out forks for automated warehouses.
Cam Follower with Grease Fitting
With previous products, it was necessary to fabricate jigs and install plugs or grease fittings, but the CF-AB type cam follower with grease fitting has grease fittings installed on both sides, so it can be used immediately after being taken out of the box.
It can be secured from either the head or thread section side of the stud using a hex wrench, and greasing is possible from both directions. As a result, it improves your work efficiency because mounting and maintenance can be performed without being concerned about mounting space.

Cam Follower with Thrust Ball
In demanding high-speed cam mechanisms, even slight mounting errors can cause abnormal wear in the thrust section of the cam follower. In such cases, using the CFN type Cam Follower with Thrust Ball provides significant benefits in terms of durability.
Please note that the CFN type can only withstand thrust load caused by minor mounting errors. Be sure to design and assemble the product to minimize the occurrence of thrust force as much as possible.

Note: The CFS type is only available in the stud hex socket head, without seal, and cylindrical outer ring type.
Cautions and Prohibitions
Handling
(1) Do not disassemble each part. It may cause loss of function.
(2) Do not drop or hit the cam follower. It may cause injury or damage. In addition, please note that when shock was applied, the product may lose its function even though there is no visible damage to the external appearance.
(3) When handling the product, wear protective gloves, safety shoes, and the like as necessary to ensure safety.
Precautions for Use
(1) When securing the cam follower, tighten the nut using a torque wrench or similar tool.
(2) Avoid continuous use at temperatures above 80°C. If the temperature exceeds this level, resin and rubber parts may be deformed or damaged.
(3) Be careful to prevent cutting chip, coolant, or other contaminant from entering. Otherwise, it may cause damage.
(4) If cutting chip or other contaminant adheres to the product, please clean it and then reapply lubricant.
(5) Cam followers can bear radial load, so please avoid using them in a way that bears thrust load.
(6) In cases of slight oscillation, it is difficult for an oil film to form on the contact surface between the rolling element and the rolling surface, which may cause fretting. Therefore, please use grease with excellent fretting resistance. In addition, it is recommended to perform a rotating operation of about one full turn periodically to form an oil film on the rolling surface and rolling element.
(7) If the rigidity and accuracy of the mounting component are insufficient, the load on the bearing will be locally concentrated, and bearing performance will be significantly reduced. Therefore, please thoroughly consider the rigidity and accuracy of the housing and base, as well as the strength of the fixing bolts.
Lubrication
(1) Lithium soap-based grease No. 2 is used as the standard grease for cam followers.
(For CFN type, urea-based grease No. 2 is used)
Please replenish grease as needed during use. Avoid reapplying different lubricants. Even if the thickener is the same type of grease, differences in additives and other components may have adverse effects on each other.
(2) Please make sure to apply lubricant between the cam follower and the mating rolling surface before use.
(3) For hex socket head cam followers of CF and CFH24 or larger (excluding models with the -A symbol and those made of stainless steel), a plug is press-fitted into the through hole that connects the bottom of the hex socket and the lubrication hole (⌀d1, ⌀d2), preventing grease from leaking out of the hex socket.
When lubricating, be careful not to apply excessive pressure that could cause the plug to come off from the bottom of the hex socket.
(4) When used in locations subject to constant vibration, clean rooms, vacuum, or special environments such as low or high temperatures, please use grease suitable for the specifications and environment.
(5) The consistency of the grease changes depending on the temperature. Please note that changes in consistency will also affect the sliding resistance of the cam follower.
(6) After lubrication, the sliding resistance of the cam follower may increase due to the mixing resistance of the grease. Be sure to perform a break-in operation and allow the grease to fully blend in before operating the machine.
(7) Even with seals, excess grease may splatter around during initial use or immediately after re-lubrication, so please wipe it off as needed before use.
(8) The properties of grease deteriorate and its lubrication performance declines over time, so it is necessary to inspect and replenish the grease according to usage frequency.
(9) Lubrication intervals vary depending on usage conditions and operating environment. Please determine the final lubrication interval and amount based on actual machine operation.
Storage
Please store the cam follower indoors, using MISUMI's packaging and shipping configuration, and avoid high temperatures, low temperatures, and high humidity.
For products stored for a long period, the internal lubricant may have deteriorated over time, so please replenish the lubricant before use.
Disposal
Please dispose of the product appropriately as industrial waste.
