End mill cutting of high-hardness steel shortens the tool life, so frequent tool changes and dimensional corrections are often required. Please let me know if you have any solution.

Selection of suitable tools and tooling for hard materials
When selecting a tool, it is effective to select a shape with a strong cutting edge and a shape with a large number of teeth and high rigidity. (Refer to page 12 for the characteristics of high-hardness steel and processing points.) For
coated cemented carbide tools, it is important to select a coating with excellent high-temperature characteristics and heat resistance.
MISUMI TS Coat has high hardness and high temperature resistance to oxidation, so it can be expected to increase the durability of tools.
For tooling, a shrink-fit holder with high gripping force is effective. Until now, shrink-fit holders have often been used mainly for finishing machining due to their good run-out accuracy. Stable machining is possible in steel machining.
Adjust by cutting amount instead of feed
If the tool is not wearing normally but is wearing rapidly due to chipping, it is necessary to review the tool selection and cutting conditions.
A negative rake angle is effective in increasing the strength of the cutting edge. (Refer to page 72 for the rake angle of the negative shape). Ultra-fine particles with high hardness and fine particles are suitable for ultra-hard materials. In addition, the number of CBN tools with high hardness is expected to increase in the future.
When reviewing the cutting conditions, it is recommended to first reduce the depth of cut rather than drastically lowering the feed rate. In order to maintain the durability of the tool and improve the finished surface, it is important that the cutting speed is high rather than low.
Recommended cutting conditions
● Use a machine and chuck with high rigidity and high accuracy.●Select a cutting oil suitable for the work material.
●Avoid using highly flammable cutting oil under high-speed conditions, and use air blow or MQL.
●If the machine you are using does not increase the rotational speed, reduce the feed rate and rotational speed by the same ratio.
●Keep run-out of the cutting edge within 0.01 mm when installing an end mill.
●Use down cut for side cutting.
●If chattering occurs during side milling, lower the cutting conditions.
●For XCP-MSXL and XCP-MSX4LB, use the feed speed and rotation speed at 70% below.
