Small Geared Motors/Gear Head-Motors with Electromagnetic Brake

Caution
Product Description
- Small Geared Motors/Gear Head-Motors with Electromagnetic Brake PACMGX / PACMGZ from MISUMI.
- PACMGX is designed for Motor Output 40W or lower.
- PACMGZ is designed for Motor Output 60W or higher.
- The rotational speeds shown are based on synchronous operation speeds. Generally, the actual speeds may be 2 ~ 20% less than indicated value depending on load conditions.
- Accessory: Key (Not available for A60), Screws, Nuts, Washers (4 each)
- Gear Head Lubrication: Greasing
Small geared motors with electromagnetic brake
These motors have a built-in electromagnetic brake for strong braking and load holding when power is off. The rectifier is built into the brake, so it runs from AC power like the motor. Choose the motor and the matching gear head (sold separately).

Allowable torque with gearhead fitted
- Rotation speeds are calculated from the synchronous speed. Actual speed is generally 2–20% lower than shown, depending on the load.
- Rotation direction: the reduction ratios marked as in the image below rotate in the same direction as the motor; the others rotate in the opposite direction.

Wiring diagram
| Single-phase | Three-phase | |
| CW (clockwise) | CCW (counterclockwise) | Protect the contacts with a spark killer circuit (R1+C1) across them. |
| Connecting the switch to the CCW side rotates the motor counterclockwise. | Swapping any two of the white, gray and black wires makes the motor rotate clockwise. | R1 = 10–200 Ω (1/4 W or more) C1 = 0.1–0.33 μF (125 V AC or 250 V AC) |
Features
- A non-excitation-actuated electromagnetic brake applies braking force even when power is off, so the load is held securely.
- Overrun is 2–4 revolutions for the motor alone.
- Simple switching allows up to 6 stops per minute (allow at least 3 s of stopping time).
- The brake has a built-in rectifier circuit, so it runs on AC power like the motor.
- Guide brake life of the electromagnetic brake motor: approx. 1 million operations at the allowable inertia.
Response characteristics
- A motor with electromagnetic brake has response characteristics such as start-up time, stopping time and overrun, all of which depend on load inertia.
- Three factors affect the response characteristics of a motor with electromagnetic brake:
(1) Average acceleration torque of the motor (2) Average brake torque (3) Load torque and load inertia. Load inertia in particular depends on the driven equipment and needs careful attention.

- Separate-cut and simultaneous-cut circuits: in wiring a motor with an electromagnetic brake, the switch position changes the stopping time.
In a simultaneous-cut circuit the motor coil and brake coil form a closed loop, so the residual magnetism of the motor affects the brake after switch-off. Armature release and stopping time are longer. Where a short stopping time is needed, use a separate-cut circuit.
