■Motor Selection

1. Determination of the Driving Facility
Specify the driving facility and overall dimensions, then check required conditions for the driving facility, such as the mass and travel speed of the material to be transferred

2. Calculation of Rotational Speed and Load
Calculate the load torque, loading moment of inertia and rotational speed at the motor driving shaft

3. Confirmation of Required Specifications
Confirm the required specifications, position accuracies, position holding, speed ranges, operating environment, and environmental resistance, etc. at the drive section and equipment

4. Motor Model Selection
Select the models most suitable for the required specifications

5. Interim Selection of Motor and Gearhead
Temporarily select motor and gearhead candidates based on calculated rotational speeds,
load torque and inertia values as well as the selected motor models

6. Confirmation of the Selected Motor
Finalize the selection by confirming that all the specifications of the motor
and the gearhead adequately meet the requirements

  • Motor
    • Select allowable torque of 0.48 N・m or more.

Design Evaluation

Verification of main components

  • Verify the motor and gear head allowable torque.
  • Motor capacity
    • Set rotational speed of the table: N1 = 124r/min (from the tact time of the transfer line)
    • If a motor with 40W is temporarily selected, motor rated rotational speed N0 = 1550r/min (Catalogue value)
    • Gear head reduction ratio: Z = N0/N1 = 1550/124 = 12.5 Thus, the value 12.5 is selected.
    • Motor starting torque = 0.25N・m Thus, Allowable motor torque = Starting torque x reduction ratio = 0.25 x 12.5 = 3.1N・m
    • Allowable gear head torque = 2.25 N・m Therefore, the lower allowable torque (2.25N・m) is used for calculation.
    • Inertia around the driving shaft.
      Coupling: 37.4kg・mm², shaft: 35.4kg・mm², table: 3435.7kg・mm², set collar: 4.0kg・mm², shaft holder: 169.8kg・mm² Thus, Total inertia around the driving shaft: J = 37.4 + 35.4 + 3435.7 + 4.0 + 169.8 = 3682.3kg・mm² = 36.823kg・cm².
    • Load torque: T = J/(9.55 x 10⁴) x N1/t = 36.823/(9.55 x 10⁴) x 124/0.1 = 0.48N・m
    • Safety factor: 2.25/0.48=4.7

Other Design Consideration

  • The guide part leading to the conveyor is designed to be detachable. This enables the rails to be exchanged or changed to various shapes according to the compatibility of the table with workpieces.
