To ensure the operator's safety, a rotary hydraulic damper is used to control the rotation of the heavy fixture.

Application Overview

Purpose

    • A fixture used to assemble a heavy cover with multiple screw surfaces to a workpiece.
      • Operation procedure
        • 1. Set up the cover and the main body (work-piece) on the fixture.
        • 2. Temporarily fix the main body on the fixture by hand-tightening bolts .
        • 3. Turn the fixture 90 degrees and assemble the cover and the main body with the screws (Top, bottom, front and back)
        • 4. Turn the fixture back to the original position and remove the bolts.

Points for use

      • Use hydraulic damper to slowly rotate a heavy work-piece and plungers to lock it in the positions.

        • Adjustable torque damper capable of rotating in both direction in relation to the shaft is selected.

Design Evaluation

Verification of main components

      • Select a damper that can withstand the moment of the rotating workpiece.
      • Damper
        • Load when rotating the workpiece: 20N
        • Hand rotated arm length (From hand to rotation center):390mm(0.39m)
        • The moment then will be (Rotating load) x (Arm length)
          20 x 0.39 = 7.8N·m, thus select adjustable damper (2pcs.) with max. torque capacity of 2~10N·m.
          (Each damper is adjusted to 7.8 / 2 = 3.9N·m)

Other Design Consideration

    • In order to prevent the workpiece from rotating due to its own weight, the center of mass should be centered at the fixture center.
    • Since the useable rotation angle of the dampers is fixed, mount the dampers 45° inclined.
